United Way collects school supplies for Aspen Acres Fire victims
(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — As crews continue working on the Aspen Acres Fire in Southern Colorado, United Way of Southern Colorado is collecting donations and school supplies to assist local families impacted by the disaster.
For families who lost homes or belongings in the wildfire, the start of the school year brings additional financial strain. Expenses for classroom basics like backpacks, notebooks, and pencils can create a significant burden during the recovery process.
Chris Segura, a representative for United Way of Southern Colorado, explained that the organization adjusted its relief efforts to gather classroom materials for affected families.
“Families are just… in the middle of this crisis time,” Segura said. “Which is why we kind of switched gears to ask for school supplies and things.”
